Resilience project

Project Proposal

With this project proposal we hope to give you an idea of the summer school as proposed on the resilience project meeting in Strasbourg on 28 and 29 September 2008.

Project: the resilience summer school is founded to form a platform for medical students from Israel, Palestine and Europe to discuss the health problems due to the enduring Israeli-Palestinian conflict and learn practical solutions to solve these problems together. During three weeks the students follow daily lectures about various health problems such as PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) and others. Besides the plenary lectures the students will follow different kinds of interactive workshops in groups of 10 students. These workshops are focused on producing practical solutions which can be performed by medical students and other medical professionals in Palestine and Israel.  At the end of each day the results of the workshops will be presented during a plenary session in which the students have the possibility to further discuss the results. At the end of the summer school several clear solutions will be presented and put on paper. These solutions are to be implemented into new projects which can be executed by Palestinians and Israelis to premise health problems above the conflict issues. The ten European students will travel to the Israel and Palestine to meet the Isreali students and Palestinian students in their own lands. The isreali stduents and Palestinian Students will show the European students the problems the experience in daily life during this two week trip.

Aim of the project: With this project we hope to emphasize that within the Middle East all medical students and medical professionals experience problems associated with the middle eastern conflicts. We hope to create a platform in which both Israeli and Palestinian students can come together and learn about the practical solutions for Health problems due to the enduring Palestinian-Israeli conflict.

Target group:

This project is accessible for ten Israeli medical students, ten Palestinian medical students and ten European medical students. We search for Palestinian and Israeli students who are willing to start an open dialog about the Health problems within Palestine and Israel due to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. The students must be engaged and prepared to form concrete and useful solutions to existing health problems within their own countries and that of their neighbors. It must be clear to the students that the summer school is not created to form a platform to discuss the conflict or other political problems between the two countries. The European students have to be prepared to fund the project and form a neutral party within the summer school. Furthermore they will think of solutions which can be preformed within Europe and therefore support the Israeli and Palestinian medical students solving their medical health problems.

Time schedule: The summer school itself is in either July or August of 2010 dependent on the preference of the Israeli and Palestinian Organizing committees. The preparation phase is scheduled as followed.
