Every year, more than 4.2 million tourists visit the city. It has 743,104 inhabitants and there are at least 172 nationalities. Dutch people are known for complaining about the weather: Amsterdam has a moderate temperate climate: in winter the average temperature is above freezing. In November the average day-temperature is 9.2˚C (48.6˚F) and the average night-temperature is 3.9˚C (39.0˚F).

There are more bicycles than inhabitants in the Netherlands, and Amsterdam is what could be called a ‘bicycle-friendly city´. In Amsterdam there are around one million bicycles and there are many bike-paths and bike-racks throughout the city. For tourists there are many possibilities to rent a bike.
Amsterdam has two universities: the ´Universiteit van Amsterdam´ and the ´Vrije Universiteit´. Both have a medical faculty with active IPPNW-students.
